If you have a food processor, you can use it to whip up a quick and easy dairy-free cucumber dip with lemon, mint, and garlic flavors. The dip can be whipped up in less than 10 minutes and will be ready to serve with air-fried or raw vegetables or chips.

How can organic vegetable dips contribute to my healthy snacking habits?

Snacking between meals is a healthy eating habit that promotes good health. Rather than mindlessly munching on sugar-loaded, nutrient-deficient snacks that do nothing to boost your energy or mood, experts recommend focusing on wholesome, nourishing snack foods that will quell hunger, satisfy your cravings, and support your overall diet quality.

One way to snack healthier is by adding fruits and vegetables to your daily intake. These nutritious vegetables are full of vitamins, minerals, fiber and antioxidants that can help keep your digestive system running smoothly and maintain overall health.

Instead of grazing on chips or crackers, try dipping carrots, celery, baby carrots, and red bell peppers in hummus, guacamole or another dip to help you enjoy a delicious treat without all the extra calories.

In addition to the veggies, you can also add some protein to your snacks to make them more satisfying. Some protein-packed options include nut butter or yogurt on whole grain crackers, turkey on an apple slice, or low-sugar protein bars with unsweetened cereal and nuts.

A good way to keep your healthy snacking habits on track is by keeping a variety of wholesome, organic vegetable dips on hand in your kitchen. These simple dips can be made quickly and easily, and are a perfect accompaniment to any meal or party.

How To

Organic foods: Are they safer and more nutritious?

Organic foods are grown without the use chemical pesticides or synthetic fertilisers. They are grown under natural conditions, without artificial inputs like pesticides, herbicides hormones, antibiotics, genetic engineering, and fungicides. Cover crops, crop rotation, crop rotation, composting animal manure as well as recycling wastewater are all organic farming practices.

In 2002, USDA National Organic Programs (NOP) were established to regulate the production and handling of organic products that are sold in the United States. The NOP regulations ensure that organic agricultural products are produced according to federal standards outlined in the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. Furthermore, the NOP rules require organic products to be free of banned substances such as pesticides residues and growth hormones.

Two types of certification programs are available in the United States for producers who wish to have their products labeled organic. One is for farmers and ranchers; one is for manufacturers. Both programs require an annual audit of the operations in order to confirm compliance with stringent standards. These services are offered by several certifying agencies, including CCOF Certified Organic Farmers & Ranchers and Quality Assurance International. The three organizations all provide verification by third parties that farms have followed strict guidelines for environmental stewardship as well as labour practices and the care of livestock.

According to USDA's Economic Research Service (ERS), organic agriculture accounted in 2013 for $4.7 Billion in sales. That year, retail spending on certified organic products totalled nearly $1.5 billion, representing a 23 percent increase since 2009. The number of grocery stores that sold organic products increased 12 percent over the same period. Spending on direct purchases of organic produce increased by 29 percent, while spending on meat, poultry, eggs, dairy, and seafood grew by only 1 percent.

While organic food costs more, consumers say its quality justifies the added expense. Consumer Reports' 2015 survey found that 88% of respondents would spend more on organic food if it had higher nutritional values. Another study published in Health Affairs found that people who eat organic foods are less likely to suffer health problems like cancer, diabetes, obesity, asthma, heart disease, and depression.

Even though there is no evidence organic foods cause or treat diseases, some studies show that they can improve overall health by reducing pesticide and other contaminants exposure. For example, a review of 31 studies published in 2010 concluded that organically raised beef had significantly lower levels of toxic chemicals and parasites than conventionally raised beef. A separate analysis of eleven studies published in 2012 led to similar conclusions.

According to a 2014 report by the Environmental Working Group, the incidence of foodborne disease caused by E.coli, salmonella or listeria monocytogenes, E. coli and E. coli O157H7 was lower when organic chicken, non-organic pork, beef, lamb and milk were compared. The group also observed that E.coliO157 is a less prevalent cause of illness in humans among children than adults. This was because the USDA has imposed stricter organic standards on animals raised for human consumption.
